Flinders University, in collaboration with partners, are testing a new approach to school food in Australia. The ‘Thinking Outside The Lunchbox’ project aims to test inclusive, equitable school-lunch programs that provide fuel for learning, social environments for connection, and teaches children about food systems.

Thinking Outside The Lunchbox is a four-year program across South Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales, looking to understand if we can develop and implement a school-provided lunch program in Australia that delivers social impact, is financially sustainable and that fits with national, state and local contexts.

We are working with schools across these Australian jurisdictions to test whether these programs can improve children’s learning-related behaviours, health and wellbeing, whilst being equitable, inclusive and sustainable.
